When will the rest of my Unpopular Publications' subscription be delivered?

After ToBar no 4 is finished in August, production will switch to the next UnPop title (as yet undetermined). We will be attempting a four month turn around. This means that the next issue should be sent out around December/January, then May/June 2027, September/October, and so on. We hope to move to a three month schedule eventually.

What genres will the next Unpopular Publications titles focus on?

YOU can help us out with this…go take our ‘What Next?’ poll. As of this writing ‘Weird Fiction’ is leading slightly with ‘Dystopian vs Utopian Tales’ and ‘Spicy Horror’ equal and right behind WF. Email me possible titles to name the publications. [email protected].

How many pages will make up Tales of Blood and Roses issue no. 4?

We expect it to exceed 100 pages. We are currently curating content that, with budget and production factors will determine the final page count.

Where do you get, and how do you decide on your content?

We usually develop a working theme for the upcoming issue and decide on an open submission call window. We may reach out to some past contributors. We put our submission calls out through various submission databases utilized by creators. These resources will bring us content from around the globe. After the submission window closes, the various editors and I will vote on submissions received. The highest-ranked pieces across the board are then chosen for inclusion. We’ll even break our own rules sometimes if something impresses us.

What Am I Getting, Is It a Zine or a Journal?

Tales of Blood and Roses was published in three issues between 2011 and 2012. Born out of the indie zine scene, these early issues were more than just marginal zines. While they were rooted in punk ethos, they also carried a strong literary bent, being professionally printed (though hand-assembled), receiving praise from critics, and all exceeding the typical zine format with more than 60 pages per issue.

Issue no. 4 will break this mold wide open, nearly doubling that page count. In this issue, we’re excited to feature a new story from cult favorite author Kevin David Anderson, as well as an interview with author and editor John Gregory Betancourt. With fresh contributors alongside returning talent, ToBaR 4 promises to be an amazing compilation of works, all loosely centered around the theme of Dangerous Games.

Why Print at All?

We still love holding a good book in our hands. There’s something great about reading horror in a printed book. But, luckily for you, you’ll also get a digital PDF copy along with every physical issue purchased. That way you can still load the horror right on your phone and carry us everywhere. *While we are providing this to backers in PDF form, reach out if you need another format, be it ePub, mobi, or even CBZ.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
